In reading about the recent escalation of the conflict with insurgents in northern Mozambique (thread under the Army & Land Defence), I saw this article on the insurgents sinking the new Mozambiquan interceptor boat: https://www.africanmilitaryblog.com/2020/08/mozambique-terrorists-sinks-french-made-hsi32-interceptor-boats

This got me wondering about:
1-When last an African naval vessel has been sunk in combat?
2-Naval vessels sunk in action this century?
Any ideas?

SS Mendi was not a naval ship, it was a British merchant vessel

A total of four South African warships (all minesweepers) were lost in WW2:
HMSAS Southern Floe (24 crew killed)
HMSAS Parktown (5 crew killed)
HMSAS Bever (17 crew killed)
HMSAS Treen (23 crew killed)
